Getting paid for your courses

A course on RAiN Academy can be free, or it can have a price. When a learner buys one of yours, RAiN sells it to them and pays you your share. This page covers setting the price, how your share is worked out, and getting the money to your bank.

Setting a price

  1. Open Training Center → Courses and choose the course.
  2. Type the price in Price (₦). Leave it empty for a free course.
  3. Save.

The price you type is what learners see, and it includes 7.5% VAT. The lowest price is ₦100.

As you type, a line under the box shows the split. For ₦20,000 it reads:

For ₦20,000: VAT ₦1,395 · RAiN 20% ₦3,721 You receive ₦14,884, paid after the 7-day refund window

How your share is worked out

Each sale is split in two steps:

  1. VAT comes out first. ₦20,000 includes ₦1,395 of VAT, leaving ₦18,605.
  2. RAiN keeps its commission from what's left, currently 20%. The rest is yours: ₦14,884.

Paystack's processing fee is paid by the learner at checkout, so it never comes out of your share.

The commission rate is recorded on every sale. If RAiN changes the rate, it applies to new sales only. What you've already earned stays as it was.

Why earnings wait 7 days

Learners can refund a course within 7 days of buying it, as long as they've completed less than 25% of its lessons. A refunded sale earns nothing, so each sale waits out its refund window before you can be paid for it.

The Earnings page

Open Training Center → Earnings. Only an owner of your Training Center can see it, because owners decide where the money goes.

At the top are three totals:

  • Pending: sales still inside their refund window.
  • Available: ready to ask for. If some of it is already in a payout request, that amount is shown underneath.
  • Paid out: what has reached your bank, after withholding tax.

Below them, Sales lists every sale with its price and your share, and whether it's Pending until a date, Available, In a payout, Paid out or Refunded. Payouts lists each payout you've asked for.

Payout details

You need two things before you can be paid.

Your TIN. RAiN deducts withholding tax (WHT) from each payout, currently 5%, and needs your Tax Identification Number to do it. Enter it as issued: 12345678-0001, or a 10 to 14 digit Tax ID.

A bank account. Choose the bank and enter the 10-digit account number, then press Save. The account is checked with the bank before it's saved, and the page then shows the account name the bank returned, so you can check it's yours. RAiN keeps only the account name, the bank and the last four digits.

To change it later, press Change bank account. You can't change it while a payout is approved or on its way, because that payout was approved for the account it will reach. Change it once the payout has arrived.

Asking for a payout

When you have money available, the Payout section shows Request payout of that amount, with what you'll receive after WHT underneath.

  1. Press Request payout of ₦….
  2. Check the figures: your available earnings, the withholding tax, and what you receive.
  3. Press Confirm request.

A request takes everything available at that moment. Earnings that become available later wait for your next request.

You can have one request in progress at a time. Straight after asking, the page says how much you asked for, what will be sent after WHT, and to which account.

What happens next

RAiN reviews the request, approves it, and sends the money to your bank. You'll get an email when it's paid, showing the earnings, the WHT deducted, the amount sent and your TIN.

The Payouts list shows where each one is:

Status Meaning
Requested Waiting for RAiN to review it
Approved Approved, and waiting to be sent
On its way Sent. Your bank may take a little while to show it
Paid Arrived. The date is shown beside it
Not approved RAiN didn't approve it. The reason is shown underneath, and the earnings are available to ask for again
Failed The transfer didn't go through. The earnings are available to ask for again

Questions providers ask

Does it cost anything to publish a course? No. Free courses earn nothing and cost nothing. On a paid course, RAiN's commission comes out of each sale.

A learner refunded my course. What happens to my share? It's cancelled with the refund. The sale shows as Refunded, with nothing owed to you.

Can a sale be refunded after I've been paid for it? No. A learner's refund window closes before a sale can be paid out. In an exceptional case RAiN may refund a sale that hasn't been paid out yet, and your share of that sale is then cancelled. Once you've been paid for a sale, it can't be refunded through the Academy.

Why is the Request payout button missing? The Payout section says why: the TIN or bank account isn't added yet, a request is already in progress, or nothing is available yet.

Someone on my team can't see Earnings. Only owners can. Their role is shown on the Training Center home page.

What about RAiN's own courses? RAiN sells its own courses directly, so those sales carry no provider share.
